11/18/08- Southpointe, PA: Indians Continue to Roll

The Peters Township JV Indians continued their dominance of Section 1 with an 8-0 victory over visiting Wheeling Central. Taylor Cox got the Indians on the board first when he took a pass from Evan Mitchell to give PT an early lead. On the next shift, Trevor Recktenwald jammed home a rebound off a David Rex shot to make it 2-0 PT. Taylor Cox then picked up his second goal of the night when he was set up by Aaron McDonough and Jake Brown to extend the Indians lead to 3-0. Trevor Recktenwald then notched his second tally of the night after some nice cycling in the Wheeling zone led to Marc Slomiany feeding Recktenwald off the give and go. Garrett Verwer picked up his first goal of the season when Mitchell Stowers fed Rod Kern who blasted one to the Wheeling net where Verwer tipped it home. 

With Peters cruising to start the second period, Taylor Cox finished his hat trick when he was set up by Mike Glicksman and Ben Zalewski. Aaron McDonough then got into the scoring act when his linemates of Cox and Zalewski set him up for the seventh Peters goal. After a nice face off win by Mike Glicksman, Evan Mitchell picked up the puck and buried one past the Wheeling goalie to close the scoring for the night, and to seal the 8-0 win for Peters Township.

Cody Skraitz stopped three Wheeling shots to earn the shutout, while Peters finished with 43 shots on the night to extend their record to 6-0. 

Peters returns to action next Tuesday, when they face cross county rival Canon Mac.


11/11/08- Southpointe, PA--Peters JV Continues to Dominate

The Peters Township JV Indians steamrolled to another victory Tuesday night, this time overpowering the Morgantown Mohawks 12-1. The JV Indians have been known to start fast on the young season, and this game was no different as Peters jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first period. David Rex got the first goal with assists from Trevor Recktenwald and Ryan Wyatt. Evan Mitchell made it 2-0 less than a minute later with Connor O'Brien and Mike Glicksman picking up the assists. Recktenwald then made it 3-0 when he was set up by Mitchell Stowers and Marc Slomiany. Just 30 seconds later, Peters extended the lead to 4-0 when Ben Zalewski buried a wrist shot after getting passes from David Rex and Connor O'Brien. Peters' fifth goal came from Michael Glicksman after he was set up by Evan Mitchell and Rod Kern. With Peters on the powerplay, Alex Debolt passed to Jake Brown, who found Davan Groom open in front of the net making it 6-0 to close the first period.

Peters was not done there as Ben Zalewski picked up his second goal of the net with some tic tac toe passing from Hayden Edmunds and Aaron McDonough. Taylor Cox then got into the scoring act with McDonough picking up his second assist to make it 8-0 PT. Trevor Recktenwald pushed the lead to 9-0 when Marc Slomiany fed a saucer pass through the slot to set up Recktenwald's second goal on the evening. Morgantown was able to get on the board to make it 9-1 after a flukey bounce came off the back boards, and behind Peters goalie Cody Skraitz.

Cruising in the third period, Peters added three more goals to seal the game at 12-1. Marc Slomiany was on the recieving end of a pass from Recktenwald this time to make it 10-1 Peters. Brad Tylenda also picked up an assist on Slomiany's goal. Michael Glicksman then netted the hat trick with two goals in the last 1:01 of the game. Glicksman was first set up by Rod Kern and Jake Brown on his second goal. Aaron McDonough then picked up his third assist to give Glicksman the hat trick. Connor O'Brien also had three assists in the rout.

Cody Skraitz stopped four Morgantown shots in the win, while Peters bombarded the Morgantown net with 36 shots. 

Through the first five games of the season, Peters sits alone in first place with five wins and zero losses, and holds a staggering 41 to 5 scoring margin over their opponents.

Wheeling, WV- 11/6/08

The Peters Township JV Indians traveled down I-70 Thursday evening to take on Wheeling Central Catholic, and came away victorious 8-0. It was a dominating performance by Peters as they outshot Wheeling by a staggering margin of 48-1. 

Connor O'Brien got the Indians on the board first when Taylor Cox found him on the point, and O'Brien wristed one past the Wheeling goalie. Then, with Peters on their only powerplay of the evening, Jason (Spirer) passed to David Rex who moved the puck to Davan Groom on the backdoor for an easy tap in goal. Later in the period, the line of Aaron McDonough, Taylor Cox, and Ben Zalewski used some excellent cycling in the offensive zone to set up McDonough for the the Indian's third goal of the period.

The second period started much like the first as Peters went back to work in the offensive zone. By spreading out the Wheeling defense, and getting the Peters defense in the scoring act, Connor O'Brien was able to tally his second goal on the night, this time receiving a pass from Ben Zalewski. Peters was able to extend their lead to 5-0 when Davan Groom picked up his second goal of the night burying the puck after some crisp passing from David Rex and Taylor Cox. Hayden Edmunds then made it 6-0 on an unassisted goal to close out the second period.

With a comfortable lead heading into the third, Peters finally yielded their first shot early in the period, but went back on the scoring attack shortly after when Aaron McDonough found Taylor Cox swooping down the slot, where Cox rifled one in for the goal. Cox then closed out the scoring with his second goal of the night with assists going to defenseman Rod Kern, and Aaron McDonough.

Cody Skraitz recorded the shutout while manning the Peters net. With the victory, Peters Township improved their record to 4-0. 

10/31/08- Southpointe, PA 

The Peters Township JV Indians made it 3 and 0 on the young season, with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Upper St. Clair Panthers on Friday evening. The start of the game was delayed 35 minutes due to only one referee showing up, but the Indians were ready to go once the puck was dropped. Evan Mitchell opened up the scoring with his fifth goal in the last two games. With Peters on the powerplay, his linemates of Hayden Edmunds and Michael Glicksman set Mitchell up to give PT a 1-0 lead. Peters was able to extend their lead to 2-0 later in the opening period when Jacob Brown blasted one home from the point. Aaron McDonough and Ben Zalewski picked up the helpers on Browns first goal of the season.

Leading 2-0 in the second period, Peters Township started a parade to the penalty box that included 12 total penalty minutes in the middle stanza alone. In one of the rare 5 on 5 moments in the second, Ben Zalewski took a breakaway pass from Aaron McDonough and buried it past the Panther goaltender to give Peters a 3-0 lead. With Upper St. Clair back on the powerplay, they were finally able to solve PT goalie Cody Skraitz for USC's lone goal on the night.

With their tightest game so far on the young season, Peters was able to establish their dominance by scoring twice in the third period. First it was Marc Slomiany getting his first goal of the year when he converted after receiving a nice back door pass from defenseman Brad Tylenda. Hayden Edmunds then closed the scoring after jamming home a rebound from a Mike Glicksman shot. Final score, Peters Township 5, Upper St. Clair 1. PT Goalie Cody Skraitz stopped 17 of 18 USC shots, while Peters fired 36 pucks at the Panter goaltender.

PT hits the road on Thursday, looking to make it 4-0, when they travel south to take on Wheeling Central.


10/28/2008 Moon, PA

The Peters Township JV Indians posted their 2nd consecutive win of the young season with a dominating 8-1 victory over the host Moon Tigers. Peters came ready to play, and scored early and often, notching six first period goals.

Evan Mitchell got on the board first just 28 seconds into the game, when he put home a rebound past the Moon goalie. Hayden Edmunds was credited with the assist. A minute later, David Rex gave PT a 2-0 lead with an unassisted, shorthanded goal. Rex then capitalized again, this time taking a pass from Jason Spirer extending the lead to 3-0 Indians. With Peters possessing the puck all over the ice, Jake Brown and Hayden Edmunds moved the biscuit setting up Evan Mitchell for his second goal of the night to give PT a 4-0 lead. Taylor Cox then got into the scoring act with a power play goal assisted by Jake Brown and Rod Kern. Evan Mitchell sealed his hat trick with 56 seconds to go in the period when he took a pass from Mike Glicksman, and then blasted a slapshot past the Moon goalie. At the end of the first period, it was Peters 6, Moon 0.

Moon got the first goal of the second period, but Peters added two more of their own after that. Aaron McDonough finished off a two on one, taking a nice set up pass from Alex Debolt for the goal. Evan Mitchell closed out the scoring with his fourth goal of the night to seal the game for Peters, 8-1. 

Peters Township put on the cruise control for the third period, and improved their record to 2-0. Overall, the Indians fired 36 pucks at the Moon net, while PT goalie Cody Skraitz made 19 saves to earn the win.

The JV Indians will try to make it 3-0 when they host the Upper St. Clair Panthers on Friday evening at the Iceoplex.

10/21/2008- Southpointe, PA

The Peters Township JV Indians opened their 2008-09 season with an 8-2 victory over South Fayette on Tuesday night. South Fayette got on the board first during a 5 on 3 powerplay, but Peters Township quickly answered with their own powerplay goal when Evan Mitchell took a pass from Aaron McDonough, and blasted the puck past the Lions goaltender. With 2:17 remaining in the first period, Peters took their first lead of the game with some nice puck movement between Davan Groom and Alex Debolt that resulted in a goal by their line mate Trevor Recktenwald. 

Holding on to a 2-1 lead in the second period, Peters Township blew the game open in the middle stanza recording four second period goals. Taylor Cox extend the Indians lead to 3-1 with assists from McDonough and Rod Kern. Then, just a minute and a half later, it was the trio of Groom, Debolt and Recktenwald joining together again to make it a 4-1 lead with Recktenwald picking up his second goal of the evening. PT did not stop there as Ben Zalewski took a nice feed from McDonough and chipped one past the South Fayette goalie to make it 5-1 Indians. Groom, Debolt, and Recktenwald then got on the board a 3rd time, however Groom finished off this goal increasing the score to 6-1 . 

The third period saw two more Peters Township goals; one, a slap shot from the point by defenseman Brad Tylenda. The Indians eighth and final goal of the game was scored by David Rex who buried home a rebound off a shot from Alex Debolt. Debolt ended up with four assists on the evening, and Aaron McDonough contributed three assists in the game. Four of Peters Township's eight goals were on the powerplay. Cody Skraitz made 14 saves in the 8-2 win.

Peters returns to action next Tuesday night against Moon at the Airport Ice Arena.
